The work

Roof Cleaning for Isleworth homes

Isleworth is a short run for us, so a look at a roof cleaning job here is a visit rather than a day of travel priced into the quote. We work across TW7 and out into Brentford, Hounslow, Richmond, Twickenham, Whitton.

A thick moss covering keeps a roof wet. Wet tiles and slates freeze and spall, valleys silt up, and gutters block with the material that washes off. On a north-facing or overshadowed roof it comes back, so it is maintenance rather than a one-off cure.

The important part is how it is taken off. A pressure washer will strip the surface off a concrete tile, drive water under the laps and blow out mortar, so we scrape and brush by hand and clear the debris out of the gutters and valleys afterwards.

The price

Roof Cleaning costs

What roof cleaning costs comes down to what you actually have, not a price list. Two jobs that sound identical can be an hour of work or a week of it, which is why we do not price roofing over the phone. We come and look, then put a figure in writing.

Questions

Roof Cleaning in Isleworth: common questions

Still not sure? Ring and ask. It is usually quicker than typing it out, and you will speak to the person who would do the work.

020 7205 4236tjmhomeimprovements@gmail.com

Will the moss come back?

On a shaded or north-facing roof, yes, in time. Clearing it every few years is normal maintenance, and it is far cheaper than replacing tiles that have spalled from holding water.

Can you pressure wash it instead? It would be quicker.

We would rather not. High-pressure water strips the surface off concrete tiles, forces water under the laps and blasts out ridge and verge mortar. The roof looks clean and then starts leaking.

Do you apply a treatment afterwards?

We concentrate on removing the growth and clearing the roof and gutters properly. If you want a biocide treatment discussed, raise it when we quote and we will tell you honestly whether it is worth it on your roof.

Is moss actually damaging my roof?

It holds water against the covering, which matters most on concrete tiles and in frost, and it blocks gutters and valleys as it washes off. On an otherwise sound roof it is maintenance rather than an emergency.

What time of year is best?

Dry, still weather any time from spring to autumn. Getting it off before winter is the most useful, because it is frost on saturated tiles that does the damage.
