Why the mortar keeps failing
Bedding ridge tiles in mortar was standard for a century, and it has one weakness: the roof moves and the mortar does not. Hairline cracks open, water gets behind the tile, frost widens the crack, and a section of ridge ends up loose.
Dry fixing solves it differently. A ventilated ridge roll seals the gap and lets air out of the roof space, and every ridge tile is screwed to a batten through a clamp. Nothing relies on mortar, and the ridge line stays put in wind.
