The work
Full bed, correct fall, right joint
Three things separate a patio that lasts from one that does not. Every slab bedded fully rather than on five dabs, so it cannot rock or crack. A fall away from the house, so water drains instead of sitting against the wall. And the correct jointing compound for the slab, so the joints do not wash out.
We lay porcelain, sandstone, limestone and concrete paving, with the sub-base, edge detail and drainage worked out first. Where the patio meets the house, the level is kept clear of the damp proof course so the wall is not bridged.

- Porcelain primed as the manufacturer requires, which is why porcelain lifts on some jobs.
