The work
Moss off, without wrecking the tiles
A thick moss covering keeps a roof wet. Wet tiles and slates freeze and spall, valleys silt up, and gutters block with the material that washes off. On a north-facing or overshadowed roof it comes back, so it is maintenance rather than a one-off cure.
The important part is how it is taken off. A pressure washer will strip the surface off a concrete tile, drive water under the laps and blow out mortar, so we scrape and brush by hand and clear the debris out of the gutters and valleys afterwards.
- No pressure washing on tiles or slates, because it does real damage.
- Gutters and valleys are cleared as part of the job, not charged separately.
- You get told about the cracked tile we found, rather than it being left.
- Debris is taken away, not swept into the flower bed.

The price
Moss Removal costs
What moss removal costs comes down to what you actually have, not a price list. Two jobs that sound identical can be an hour of work or a week of it, which is why we do not price roofing over the phone. We come and look, then put a figure in writing.
- Roof area and how heavy the growth is.
- Access, and how much of the roof can be reached safely.
- How much material ends up in the gutters and valleys.
- Whether any repairs are wanted at the same time, which saves a second access charge.
