The work

Fascias & Soffits for Hanwell homes

Hanwell is a short run for us, so a look at a fascias & soffits job here is a visit rather than a day of travel priced into the quote. We work across W7 and out into Ealing, Southall, Brentford, Acton, Greenford.

A fascia board does real work: it takes the weight of a full gutter, and on many houses it also holds the bottom course of tiles in line. When it softens, brackets pull out and the gutter starts to sag and overflow, which then wets the wall below.

Soffits close the gap under the eaves. Sealed solid, they stop the roof space ventilating and encourage condensation in the loft, so we fit vented soffit or over-fascia vents as part of the work.

What's included

What fascias & soffits covers

  • Old boards removed

Existing fascia and soffit taken off so the timber behind can be seen.

  • Rafter foot repairs

Rotten spar ends cut back and spliced or sistered where needed.

  • New fascia

Full replacement board, fitted level so the gutter has a true line to run on.

  • New soffit

Vented or solid soffit as the roof needs, cut neatly to the wall.

  • Ventilation

Continuous vented soffit or over-fascia ventilation to move air into the roof space.

  • Tile line reinstated

The bottom course dressed back down over the new fascia and into the gutter.

The options

Fascias & Soffits in Hanwell: which system

We fit all of these across Hanwell. Which one suits depends on the roof you have, the span, and what you want out of it - so here is the honest difference between them.

Full roofline replacement

Roofline work gets done piecemeal on a lot of houses: a new gutter screwed to a rotten fascia, or a fascia capped over without the soffit being touched. It looks better for a couple of years and then the same problems come back.

Doing it as one job means the old boards come off, the rafter feet get looked at, and new fascia, soffit and gutter go on in the correct sequence with eaves ventilation built in. The result is an edge that sheds water and lets the roof breathe.

The process

How a fascias & soffits job runs in Hanwell

  1. Step 01

We check the boards and the spar ends, because that decides the real scope.

    Agree the finish

Colour, board depth and whether the soffit is vented or solid.

  3. Step 03

    Strip and repair

Old boards off, timber repairs done and shown to you before covering.

  4. Step 04

    Fit and finish

New boards on, tiles dressed back, gutter refitted and tested.

The price

Fascias & Soffits costs

What fascias & soffits costs comes down to what you actually have, not a price list. Two jobs that sound identical can be an hour of work or a week of it, which is why we do not price roofing over the phone. We come and look, then put a figure in writing.

  • Metres of fascia and soffit, and the depth of the soffit.
  • How much rafter foot repair is needed.
  • Height and access, particularly on a three-storey elevation.
  • Colour and finish, since woodgrain foils cost more than white.

Questions

Fascias & Soffits in Hanwell: common questions

Still not sure? Ring and ask. It is usually quicker than typing it out, and you will speak to the person who would do the work.

Should I go uPVC or timber?

uPVC is the practical choice on most houses: it does not need painting and it lasts. On a period property where the detail matters, or where a conservation condition applies, painted timber is the right answer and we will fit it.

My gutter sags in the middle. Is that the fascia?

Usually. Brackets lose their grip in soft timber and the gutter drops, which stops it draining. Replacing the fascia and refixing the gutter properly is the fix, rather than adding another bracket.

Do you need scaffolding?

For a two-storey eaves run, usually a tower or scaffold is needed to work safely and get a straight line. For a single-storey or garage eaves it can often be done from ladders. We will tell you which at the quote.

Do uPVC fascias need painting?

No, and that is the main reason people move away from timber. They want washing down occasionally, and a woodgrain foil holds its colour better than a cheap white board on a sunny elevation.

Can they be fitted without scaffolding?

On a garage or single-storey eaves, usually. At two storeys we would want a tower or scaffold, both to work safely and to get a straight line along the run, and that is in the quote.
