Is fibreglass good for a balcony?

It is one of the better choices, because it cures seamless and can be finished anti-slip. Thresholds and upstands are the critical details over a habitable room, and those are formed into the laminate rather than sealed afterwards.

Can GRP be laid over my old felt?

No. It needs to bond to a sound, dry, screwed-down board, so the old covering comes off first. Anyone offering to lay it straight over felt is storing up a delamination.

Can it be repaired if something damages it?

Yes. A damaged area is ground back and re-laminated, then the topcoat blended, so a repair does not mean re-covering the roof.

How long does GRP take to cure?

The laminate goes off within hours and the topcoat the same day in reasonable conditions, so a small roof is usually two days. It cannot be laid in rain or near freezing, which is the main scheduling constraint.

Does fibreglass crack?

Laid on a rigid, properly fixed deck, no. Cracking comes from deck movement, which is why the boarding is screwed rather than nailed and why we replace any board that flexes underfoot.
