Is dry ridge required by regulation?

Current British Standard guidance for roof tiling requires ridge and verge tiles to be mechanically fixed rather than relying on mortar alone, so any new roof we lay is dry fixed. On an older roof it is an upgrade rather than an obligation.

Will it look different from the mortar ridge?

From the ground the ridge looks much the same, since the same style of ridge tile sits on top. Dry verge caps at the gable end are visible up close and come in colours to suit the tile.

Can you do just the hips?

Yes. Hips fail first on a lot of roofs because they are longer and more exposed, so hips on their own is a common piece of work.

Can dry ridge be fitted without stripping the roof?

Yes. The ridge and hip tiles come off, the roll and clamps go on, and the tiles go back. The rest of the covering is untouched, which is why it is a day or two rather than a re-roof.

Will it look different from the ground?

No. The same ridge tiles sit on top and the line reads the same from the street. Up close you can see the clamps and the ventilated roll under the edge of the tile.
